Ann’s Story
Why did you decide to find a career coach? - What were you feeling about your work/job/career, and about yourself, that you wanted to change?
After moving through a number of roles over several years—none of which felt quite right—I reached a point where I knew something had to change. I found myself questioning my career choices, my capability, and, at times, my confidence. I kept wondering why I couldn’t seem to find the ‘perfect’ role and what that said about me.
Taking some time out of the workforce gave me the space to reflect, and I realised that if I wanted to move forward and find the role I truly wanted, I needed to invest in my own development. I understood that the answers weren’t just in the job market—they were in gaining clarity about myself: what I value, where I thrive, and what roles genuinely suit me.
I had never done an assessment or any structured developmental work like this before, so choosing to work with an executive coach was a deliberate step toward future-proofing my career. It was important for me to build confidence, reset my direction, and make decisions from a place of alignment rather than uncertainty.
Working with a coach has helped me reconnect with my strengths, rebuild my sense of purpose, and move forward with far greater clarity and self-belief.
How easy/hard did you find the career coaching course, what was your favourite part and what did you learn about yourself?
I found the course both enlightening and challenging in equal measure. There were genuine aha moments where things clicked into place, along with moments that were uncomfortable, confronting, and didn’t always align with the outcome I expected—or with who I thought I was. And that was the value: there was no ambiguity or hiding. The assessments were clear, structured, and grounded in proven frameworks that provided certainty and accountability in the results.
The program was broken down into clear, actionable units exploring my personality, strengths, and shadows. Each session built on the last, and the spacing across a number of months gave me the time I needed for reflection and deeper thinking. I didn’t have one ‘favourite’ moment—I genuinely enjoyed the process as a whole, especially the way everything connected.
What I appreciated most was that the insights weren’t just relevant to my career—they helped me understand my relationships with friends and family too.
Through the course, I learned that I have true standout strengths, and I gained a much clearer understanding of my shadows and how to navigate them. I also learned why certain roles I’d held in the past weren’t the best fit for me, which has given me far more clarity and confidence about the roles that will suit me going forward.
How has working with a career coach changed your levels of clarity and confidence about your career?
Coaching has given me a completely new level of clarity in my career. I now understand how to confidently lean into my strengths, manage my shadows, and handle challenging situations with far more perspective. It’s also helped me define my core values and recognise the cultures and leaders I work best with. Overall, I feel more grounded, more assured, and far more equipped to make the right decisions for my future.
How has working with a career coach changed your self-confidence and self-esteem?
Coaching has significantly lifted my self-confidence and self-esteem. I can now clearly articulate why a role is right for me—something that has genuinely set me apart throughout interview processes. The work I’ve done with my executive coach has given me language, clarity, and conviction, and I now back myself in a way I simply didn’t before.
