Tom’s Story
Why did you decide to find a career coach? - What were you feeling about your work/job/career, and about yourself, that you wanted to change?
I had spoken to Alex prior to being made redundant from my previous role. I had originally discussed my overall desire to seek better alignment in my career, but the redundancy gave me the catalyst I needed to start the work. I didn’t feel that the career trajectory was taking me in the direction I wanted and after 20 odd years I felt I needed help in figuring out what I should do next.
How easy/hard did you find the career coaching course, what was your favourite part and what did you learn about yourself?
The process was an expertly guided and very personal and in-depth discovery of self, that whilst at times was a little confronting, was nonetheless incredibly insightful. I have done many profiling exercises in my life and even had odd executive coaching, but none which lay bare the very essence of who I am, and most importantly the core needs which drive everything else.
This was perhaps the most empowering and illuminating part for me and what finally made me realise why certain aspects of my career hadn’t been working for me up until that point.
How has working with a career coach changed your levels of clarity and confidence about your career?
Coaching has helped me know what needs I need to serve and how those needs and values can be met and aligned in work. This knowledge is incredibly valuable as it provides clearer decision making.
How has working with a career coach changed your self-confidence and self-esteem?
I am so much clearer on my strengths and shadows than I have ever been before and for the first time an understanding that leaning into those shadows and not away from them will ultimately help me develop as a person into the future..
What would you say to anyone who is considering working with Alex as their career coach but not sure if they should do it?
